LDF Legacy Project with The American Hardwood Export Council
Musical Shelf by Martino Gamper for Tamra Rojo
LDF Legacy Project with The American Hardwood Export Council
Made by Benchmark Furniture UK
Sir John Sorrell, Chairman of London Design Festival, invited leaders of London’s cultural institutions to collaborate with some of the world’s most prolific designers to create a ‘Legacy’ piece of design – an object of personal or professional relevance to them.
Each of the pieces – 10 in total – were beautifully crafted in American red oak, an exciting and sustainable hardwood species that grows abundantly in American forests, and were fabricated at Benchmark Furniture in Berkshire. Nine of the pieces, including Gampers, were presented as a group exhibition at the V&A, before they were relocated to the homes or institutions of each of the commissioners.
Gamper created a modular free-standing shelf for storing Tamara Rojo's (Artistic Director of the English National Ballet),record collection.
By turning the shelves at an oblique angle the covers are clearly visible making it easier to find which ever record Tamara may be looking for.
The darker horizontal elements are made of fumed red oak while the vertical ones are covered in a lighter diagonal veneer to create a contrast and emphasise the oblique design.
The 10 commissioners and designers were;
TAMARA ROJO CBE Artistic Director, English National Ballet, with MARTINO GAMPER
ALEX BEARD CBE Chief Executive, Royal Opera House, with TERENCE WOODGATE
AMANDA NEVILL CBE CEO, British Film Institute, with SEBASTIAN COX

Museion Passage
2012
Museion, Bolzano, It
Museion’s 2012 season opens with a new look for the ground floor: thanks to the Museion Passage project by the designer Martino Gamper (Italy, 1971), this area now fulfills the role of 'covered square', offering a physical meeting place also open to external events.
On occasion of the opening of Museion Passage, there will be a panel discussion and poster project devoted to the theme 'The New Public'. These initiatives are part of a programme of related events surrounding the exhibition of the same name curated by Rein Wolfs, Museion’s guest curator for 2012. The posters have been designed by H I T Berlin, Lupo&Burtscher Bolzano, Metahaven Amsterdam and NORM Zürich. The discussion chaired by Rein Wolfs will feature Martino Gamper, Angelika Burtscher (Lupo&Burtscher), Daniel van der Velden (Metahaven) and Emanuela De Cecco (Libera Università di Bolzano).

Bench To Bench
2011
Hackney Wick, London, Uk
Concrete, laser cut and rolled steel - galvanised and powder coated, wood composite (made from a composite of recycled hardwood fibre and high density polythene), reclaimed tatajuba (wood) from the Chelsea College of Art, London.
Bespoke street furniture designed by Martino Gamper is the latest public art offering in the Olympic fringe area. The art works commissioned by the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation (LTGDC) to deal with poor connections and access to Hackney Wick - an area which sits next to the Olympic Stadium - provide local community benefits but have stimulated a lively debate over the role that public art should play in delivering a legacy for east London.
Called ‘Bench to Bench’, Martino Gamper has created bespoke pieces of street furniture constructed from recycled materials. The scattering of benches and stools form a trail from Victoria Park to the Olympic Park leading people along a route which is currently difficult to navigate.
London Thames Gateway Development Corporation is the key government agency responsible for delivering social and economic growth to transform east London. It has significant powers to effect change, by helping to improve the prospects for new homes, jobs, services and environmental improvements for local people. Bench to Bench was shortlisted in the London Planning Awards 2011/ 2012 for the Best New Public Space.

Peter Pilotto Rail at Dover Street Market
2011
Peter Pilotto at Dover Street Market, London, Uk
The Spring/Summer 2011 collection is displayed on a purposely designed rail by furniture designer Martino Gamper, commissioned by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos.
“Regarding the ideas behind the rail, I was inspired by Peter Pilotto’s “The Stone Masters” collection, having grown up in the Italian Alps/ Dolomites I'm very familiar with rock climbing. The rail is about winding, stretching and movement in space, similar to a rock climber.”

Every Shoe Needs A Box
2008
Diego Dolcini Boutique, Milano, It
Not a classic shoe boutique, but rather a site-specific installation, the first Diego Dolcini space in Milan was created by young designer Martino Gamper. In this concept of an interior Gamper removes the boundaries between art, fashion and design, transforming the usual, traditional shoebox, into a recurring symbolic and structural element, at the origin of spectacular accumulations and divisions of the space. Retaken and reproduced in different woods, reinvented and embellished by natural tones and textures, it evokes memories of contexts and contests, of rules and rituals of shoemaking. The shoe is the omnipresent yet invisible leading figure.
